The power of a helping hand

If you knew him, you’d say he was a hardworking, self-reliant man. For the last several years, Darryl*, a life-long resident of Orange County, has diligently worked part-time, in addition to his full-time employment, all in the name of taking care of himself and his financial future.

Unfortunately, Darryl’s financial future grew dim in a matter of months. First, it was a small auto repair. Then, something else went wrong and another car repair was needed. Because he needed his car to travel to and from work, paying the $2,000 repair bill was not an option but a necessity.

Suddenly, Darryl was behind on bills due to these unforeseen events. His auto insurance was under threat of cancellation. If he had more time, he could’ve resolved these grievances himself; but, as we all know, bills wait for no one.

These emergent circumstances made Darryl an ideal candidate for interim support from People for People Fund.

For nearly four decades, People for People Fund–thanks to the generosity of local donors–has provided one-time grants to qualifying residents of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster County. The Fund recognizes that, no matter how well prepared or self-supporting an individual may be, financial hardships can still wreak havoc.

“If he had just a few more weeks, he would’ve resolved the situation himself,” explained Nolly Climes, president of People for People Fund. “He always paid his bills on time, but these unforeseen repairs put him in an unexpected situation. His only choice was to ask for help and, thankfully, we were able to provide it.”

Thanks to the fund’s one-time assistance with auto insurance, Daryl regained his financial stability. This would not be possible without the generosity of his neighbors –people like you and me.

The People for People Fund helps those in need in Orange and Sullivan Counties. To learn more, visit www.peopleforpeoplefund.org or find it on Facebook at People for People Fund, Inc. and on Instagram at peopleforpeoplefund.
